After enjoying a glass or two of Tonnix at our last event at The Oyster & Fish House, Rick Stein has decided to join forces with the ‘Tonnix Two’ to host a very special event with Mark and Mitch Tonks in Portugal later this year.

Quinta de La Rosa vineyard will be hosting the two day experience 27th and 28th November in the stunning Douro Valley.

The price of £600 per person includes 2 nights bed and breakfast in a double room (suite upgrades available for extra price), meals both nights, and a winery tour and tasting with Sophia Bergqvist, owner of Quinta de la Rosa.

Once you’ve checked in on 27th November, and enjoyed the afternoon in the Douro Valley, you are invited to join us for a traditional Portuguese meal with wine and Fado music. After breakfast on 28th November there will be a tour of the vineyard and wine tasting with Sophia, followed by the option to enjoy a boat trip if the weather is on our side! As that’s a ‘maybe’, we haven’t included that in the price, but do let us now at the point of  booking if you’d be interested in the boat trip (40 Euro per person).  After the wine tasting you have the rest of the day to explore or relax. Perhaps visit Pinhao for some lunch, or simply relax at the hotel and enjoy the incredible views.

That night there will be a 4-course meal with wine by Mark, Mitch and Rick. They will create a dish each, as well as one collaborative course. As always, they will be mingling with everyone throughout the evening too, so there will be plenty of time to chat.

The 29th is check-out day, so after breakfast you can either make your way home, or head in  to Porto to continue your mini break for the weekend. You might want to stay on at the vineyard for the weekend? If so, please let Alina know, when you book for this experience.

The creation of the wine came about when our friend and wine supplier, John Hutton, took Mitch and Mark on one of their vineyard trips to introduce them to Sophia Bergqvist, a 6th generation port and winemaker in the Douro Valley. They came home to the UK the next day with a plan in place for their own wine. Now that’s a pretty productive lunch! Mark asked his friend Tracey Emin to design the label, and here we are, still drinking Tonnix over 14 years later.

Quinta de la Rosa is a pioneering Single Quinta winery famed for its premium wines and ports. It is also known for its idyllic hotel and restaurant.

The terroir in the Douro offers incredible opportunity. None more so than La Rosa’s whose ideal location is home to some of the region’s finest vineyards. They rise dramatically out of the river with the imposing Vale do Inferno vineyard and climb majestically up to an altitude of 400m with Lamelas, whose magnificent views overlook the very heart of the region. Our evening meals will take place in their restaurant ‘Cozinha da Clara’, overlooking the dramatic scenery of the Douro Valley and named after Claire Bergqvist.
